Understanding the phenomenon of innovative performance of Sectoral Innovation Systems (SSI) is considered as a complex problem that has not yet been satisfactorily resolved; For this reason, it is proposed to approach this research from the implementation of proven methodologies in similar contexts such as the National Innovation Systems and Regional Innovation Systems, contributing in the generation of knowledge and the development of tools and analysis under new approaches, providing extensive possibilities for future research.

This document aims to contribute to the explanation of phenomena related to SSI, by developing a descriptive model, identifying the strategic factors that have the greatest influence on its innovative performance. The construction of a knowledge production function (expressed in patents) is carried out, validated in the textile sector.

The present presents in detail the empirical process implemented, in order to obtain a validation of the model proposed in the previous book. For this purpose, it begins with a methodological description, highlighting the own limitations that will be faced in the application of the factor analysis technique; Subsequently, a specific sector is selected, in this case it will be the textile sector; In this same item, the justification of the relevance of the case selection is carried out. Subsequently, a detailed explanation of the database that will be used in the validation of the model is carried out, including the dependent and explanatory variables, making the justification and relevance of each of the variables to be considered, which allow avoiding as far as possible. possible the criteria used in the study.

Additionally, the different results obtained are explained through the adequacy of the factor analysis; In this way, a score calculation of the various factors is generated. To finish with the selection of the different factors achieved with the use of the technique and, in this way, finish explaining the importance of each of the resulting components that will describe the innovative performance of the sector.

Carrying out an empirical analysis of the model, applied to a specific sector, implies a respective validation of the proposed model. For this reason, this research aims to present an initial contribution to the study of sectoral innovation systems, taking as a reference the case of the textile sector, applied to countries belonging to the OECD.

It begins by analyzing the own limitations that the neoclassical current presents, in this way to be able to have an adequate understanding of the models based on technological variables, which are usually supported under evolutionary theory, which undoubtedly is the support of this work, where mainly insufficient descriptive elements that fully detail macroeconomic policies, structural changes and the productive performance of an innovation system. Although different theorists have carried out work in this direction, it is noteworthy that currently, no study can adequately describe the economic evolutionary phenomenon, determining which variables or factors have the most considerable influence. Still, it does stand out that based on the evolutionary theory, different approaches have been made to obtain a description closer to reality.

This research work has tried to provide new elements to analyze the performance of sectoral innovation systems, by identifying a series of descriptive factors, the product of the implementation of factor analysis, which allows characterizing the mechanisms that stimulate the system.

It is mainly highlighted that the contributions of the research work are conceived from four different perspectives: first, the scientometric analysis of state of the art; secondly, the proposal of the theoretical model; thirdly, the empirical application of the model; and, finally, the public policy proposals.

From these four elements, it is highlighted that the implementation of technological surveillance and scientometric analysis of indexed scientific publications is a value of high importance for this study and any type of research carried out with academic rigour. It was possible to know the panorama at the international level and the level of evolution in research related to sectoral innovation systems. Through this application, the main shortcomings and job opportunities that could be carried out could be identified; It was also possible to characterize the networks between the countries, authors, and organizations that have led the research of this nature. In this way, after knowing the current panorama, the primary documents on which the present investigation was supported could be inferred.

Secondly, the development of the proposal of the theoretical model of the sectoral innovation system was generated from the different works identified in the scientometric analysis, where it was possible to characterize the main components that have the power to describe this model and also they found the theoretical variables that have greater representativeness in the factors that influence the performance of the sectoral innovation system.
