The book Innovation Systems as Complex Systems consists of an exhaustive analysis of the literature related to innovation systems, using national, regional and sectoral systems as a frame of reference. To understand them from the epistemological basis and then as complex systems, since they have various characteristics such as self-organization, non-linearity, among others. In conclusion, the present work exposes the variables that interact in the dynamics. That are part of the collective construction of innovation systems, offering the possibility of understanding that they do not respond to traditional or linear phenomena and that given their level of relationship, An Innovation System behaves precisely like a Complex System.
The following is one of the graphs that can be viewed in the book, where the connections of the authors’ networks and their relationship through scientific publications are exposed.
Innovation systems are analyzed from the perspective of complex systems; it can be concluded that all innovation systems, both national, regional and sectoral, respond to complex relationship characteristics because they do not obey any specific structure and pattern. It is an exciting conclusion because it was shown through a literature review that a large number of authors argue that innovation systems do not obey a specific routine and therefore cannot be modelled, much less simulated.
On the other hand, there is a current of authors who manage to make approaches to innovation systems not from the perspective of complexity, but from another type of analysis, which in some way allow us to approach the description of the behaviour of a system of innovation.
